I came to Australia with no expectations: Natarajan | Cricket News

CHENNAI: T Natarajan has been a refreshing addition to this Indian team. In a side boasting of players who never shy away from showcasing their aggression, the 29-year-old Tamil Nadu pacer presents a rather calmer picture.
There were no over-the-top celebrations whenever he picked a wicket nor did he exchange cold stares at the batsmen whenever runs were scored off him. “I have never been aggressive and that’s how I have been since my younger days. I can’t fake aggression. Each time I take a wicket, all that I do is smile and celebrate with my teammates,” Natarajan said on Tuesday during a TV interview.

Picked initially as a net bowler for this trip, lady luck soon shone on Natarajan as he made the limited-overs squad in place of statemate Varun Chakravarthy ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

As he landed in Australia, all that Natarajan did was to stay calm and not let the situation get the better of him. “Just to get a chance to play against a quality side like Australia has been extraordinary. I came here with no expectations. My strength has always been the ability to bowl those yorkers and deliver during the death overs,” the 29-year-old said.

Natarajan’s inclusion into the team came on the back of consistent performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL-13. All that the pacer from Salem did was to follow the same template which brought him success in that tournament.
“I have not looked to do anything different from what I did during the IPL. You don’t change too much when something is working for you over a period of time,” said Natarajan, who ended with 2-70 in the lone ODI he played before taking 6 wickets in the three-match T20 series.
Skipper Virat Kohli was understandably happy with Natarajan’s show throughout the series. “In the absence of (Jasprit) Bumrah and (Mohd) Shami, he is the one who has stood up. He is sure of what he wants to do. I wish him all the best. A left-arm bowler is an asset for any team,” said Kohli after the match.
